Safety in horticulture and packhouse operations

Horticulture operates based on seasonal rhythms. When harvest peaks, packhouses ramp up fast, bringing in large numbers of seasonal and temporary workers who may be new to the site, new to the equipment and, in some cases, new to the country. The workforce can change significantly from week to week, which makes maintaining consistent safety standards a real challenge even for well-run operations.

Inside the packhouse, forklifts and pallet jacks move product through grading lines, cool stores and loading docks alongside workers on foot. Outside, yard areas handle truck movements, bin storage and vehicle traffic. The combination of a changing workforce, time pressure during peak season and the mix of vehicles and pedestrians in shared spaces creates conditions where near-misses can happen frequently but go unnoticed without consistent monitoring. inviol supports your existing safety practices by providing a constant standard across every shift and every zone, regardless of how quickly the team is changing. For operations that run across multiple packhouse sites, it also provides a constant view of risk across the network.

What inviol detects in horticulture environments

inviol’s detectors are configured to match the specific risks of your packhouse, cool store and yard operations.

Pedestrian-vehicle proximity

Detects close calls between workers and forklifts or other vehicles in packhouse aisles, yard areas and loading zones – particularly important when large numbers of new and seasonal workers are on site.

Loading and unloading zone activity

Monitors dock and yard areas for unsafe interactions during truck loading, bin movements and product dispatch.

PPE compliance

Spots missing PPE in defined areas, logged with video evidence for coaching follow-up. Useful for reinforcing standards with new starters who may not yet have embedded site-specific PPE habits.

Vehicle speed

Tracks forklift and vehicle speeds across defined zones, flagging when thresholds are exceeded during busy peak-season operations.

INDUSTRY

Horticulture

Horticulture moves fast, and with seasonal teams, and conditions that change week to week, the real risk isn’t just the work. It’s consistency.

inviol monitors your site in real time and flags risky behaviours as they happen, especially machine pedestrian near-misses with forklifts, loaders, and packhouse traffic.

Turn those moments into simple coaching. Video based feedback is instant, clear, and consistent. No long explanations, no language barriers. Videos speak thousands of words. So new starters get up to speed fast, and safe habits stick.
