Safety in retail and wholesale environments

In retail and wholesale, safety risk concentrates behind the scenes. While the shop floor is customer-facing and tightly managed, the back-of-house areas (receiving docks, storage rooms, loading bays, mezzanines) are where forklifts, pallet jacks, ladders and manual handling create the same kinds of risks you’d find in a warehouse, often in tighter spaces and with less dedicated safety resource.

Many retail and wholesale operations run back-of-house with smaller teams who manage receiving, replenishment and dispatch alongside their other responsibilities. Dedicated safety supervision across every dock and storage area isn’t always practical, especially across a network of stores or branches. Risk in these environments can be easy to miss because it happens in areas where fewer eyes are watching. A forklift near-miss on a receiving dock, a worker climbing racking instead of using a ladder, stock stacked unsafely in a back aisle are events that can come and go without notice, until one of them leads to an accident or injury. inviol extends your safety coverage into these back-of-house areas using the cameras you already have, catching the events that would otherwise go unseen and giving your team real footage to coach from.

What inviol detects in retail and wholesale environments

inviol’s detectors are configured to match the specific back-of-house risks of your retail or wholesale operation.

Pedestrian-vehicle proximity

Detects close calls between workers and forklifts or pallet jacks in receiving docks, storage areas and loading bays where space is often limited.

Loading and unloading zone activity

Monitors dock areas for unsafe interactions during deliveries, including situations where trucks, forklifts and workers share tight spaces under time pressure

PPE compliance

Spots missing hard hats, high-vis vests and other required PPE in defined back-of-house areas, logged with video evidence for coaching follow-up.

Housekeeping and trip hazards

Detects obstructions, items in walkways and other housekeeping risks in back-of-house areas where stock movement is constant and conditions change throughout the day.
